Project Title: Verticle Measurements and Profiling of Ozone, Ozone
Precursors, Biogenic VOC Emissions, and Airborne Toxics: Tmissions
Transportation Using Balloons
SCERP Project Number: AQ PP96I-17
Principal Investigators: S. Watson, R. Price
University of Utah
Objectives:
The study examined the transborder transport of ozone, oxides of nitrogen,
hydrocarbons and other precursors of ozone to help develop computer models
used to project ozone levels. The project provides data using the
hot air balloon platform at elevations ranging from 200 to 2500 feet above
ground level. The balloon platform was used to (a) determine whether
stratification of ozone is occurring; (b) characterized the mixing characteristics
within the boundary layer; and (c) quantify levels of constiuents at various
elevations.
