Border Institute III

"Trade, Energy and the Environment: Challenges and Opportunities
for the Border Region, Now and in 2020"

Border Institute III will examine:

  • Trade and Economic Development Pressures in the Border Region
  • Border Region Energy Sources, Markets, Prices and Trends
  • The Geography of Binational Energy
  • Environmental Impacts of Energy Exploration, Generation, Transmission, and Use
  • Minimization and Mitigation of Impacts
  • Renewable Sources and Efficient Uses
  • Institutional and Policy Roadblocks and Options
  • Together with the Border Trade Alliance and the U.S. EPA Office of International Activities, SCERP sponsors an annual Border Institute to convene top-level stakeholders, experts, and policy makers to discuss options for development of the region that lead to a sustainable future. Border Institute I focused on demography and economics. Border Institute II examined possibilities for reinventing the economy in ways that incorporate principles of natural capitalism and financing environmental infrastructure.
